Pickup of Dead Animals
- According to the DEC, no agency has a legal responsibility to remove small animals, domestic or otherwise from the roadways this includes cats, raccoons, skunks, muskrat, beaver, etc.
- The Highway Departments are responsible to remove DEER only.
- The Dog Control Officers are responsible to remove DOGS only.
- The homeowners or landowners in the vicinity of the dead animal are encouraged to remove the animal with a shovel and either bury it or put it in the ditch. If the homeowner does not want to do that then they can just let nature take its course with the removal by other animals.
